Friday Flowers Club #35~Walking Lightly

After Samhain
Now, for a while, the dark
Stays dark. The long nights
Will be long no matter
How you pray for light.

This god will not be rushed.

But she will offer you
The thick black folds of her cloak,
Where you’re finally free
To lose everything
That can’t be kept

Hello Friends.

November has finally announced its arrival with the cold start to the week, those thick black Samhain folds enveloping and protecting us on our journey towards Winter. The Earth is slowing down, the trees are shedding the last threads of their summer vestments, the animals are busying themselves foraging, storing, nesting.

I read recently that ‘rest is not idleness, it’s preparation’, and for me this is the very essence of November. Stillness, preservation, renewal, rebirth. All themes we have discussed on here at this time of year before, but the value of these preternatural drivers remains; to invite us to gently step into the dark half of the year.

To shed the leaves we no longer need, to strip back the tree to its hardy efficiency, to preserve the fundamental interior, to trust in the potential held in the ground beneath our feet waiting to emerge.

So a gentle reminder half-way through November to trust your instincts and tend to the ritual of preparation. Pause, reflect, release, submit to warmth and rest. And in doing so, step gently friends.

This week’s flowers I’m going for a purple and white winter feel, think thistles and heather vibes,  reminding me of home.

Have a lovely week and as always, “Bringing the Outdoors In”.
