Friday Flowers Club #36~Kindred
Hello Friends.
I hope the start of 2026 has treated you gently. ‘Wintering’ has become something of a fashionable term, but I for one have certainly tried to foster some comfort over the last few cold weeks by taking the time to rest, reflect and connect, culminating in a cosy retreat to Staithes last weekend.
The whole village of Staithes seems to exist in its own pocket universe. I love the sea, I love the myriad houses, I love the labyrinthine streets and their delicious names; Dog Loup, Seaton Garth, Slippery Hill.
Whilst walking along ‘Gun Gutter’ I met a lady holding a jar of flowers, and I remarked how lovely they looked. She thanked me, explaining how they were made by a local Florist who ran a wonderful scheme called a Friday Flowers Club(!).
Smiling, I told her that I too was a Florist, and did the very same thing back home in Sheffield. And then this kindred spirit delighted in exclaiming how she had lived and studied in Sheffield some fifty years ago. It was a lovely meeting, reminding me that we are all just a patchwork of experiences and stories, and also a timely coincidence taken as my signal to return to the studio.
And so I am pleased to say that Friday Flowers Club will return on its bi-weekly schedule this week. Order by Tuesday 27th for flower delivery on Friday 30th January.
This week’s flower choices will be leaning into spring with soft, delicate spring hues, anemones, wax flower, and the return of our favourites, Smith and Munson British grown tulips.
I know it still might seem a long way off, but the signs are there. The snowdrops poking out through the mud, the blossom buds on the trees. The signs of new life.
Have a lovely week and as always, “Bringing the Outdoors In”.
