Friday Flowers Club #46~Golden Leaves, Quiet Minds.
Hello Friends.
I hope you have all had a healthy and fulfilling Summer. We are treading the leaf strewn path towards Mabon and the Autumn Equinox over the next few weeks, and whilst there is a warmth in the air right now as Lughnasa holds us a little longer, the nights have started to lengthen again and there is a familiar apricity approaching.
In preparation for the Equinox I made a foraged Willow wreath last week, adorned with Rosehips, Oak and Hops. Its usefulness in warding off evil spirits is debatable, but it certainly provides an interesting focal point on the door nonetheless.
Here is my crown
Of winding vine,
Of leaves that dropped,
That fingers twined...

Hops, perhaps not so commonly used in arrangements, symbolise rest, deep protection and emotional balance, and are considered to be a botanical anchor against turbulent energy and restless thoughts. As we approach another point in the wheel of perfect balance (‘Equinox’ literally translates to ‘Equal Night’) they seemed a fitting element within the wreath wrapped around sprigs of Oak emblematising strength and endurance.
Balance and strength. Words to carry with us into the Autumn and beyond as we look to golden leaves and quiet minds.
Have a lovely week everyone and as always, “Bringing the Outdoors In”.
